| “Hunting” A Familiar Word For Patrick
Sheltra
INDIANTOWN, Florida (January 19, 2010) - - Back from the
trenches and isolation of Dryden, Texas ARCA Racing Series
(ARS) veteran driver Patrick Sheltra without hesitation
enjoyed and is reflecting on his two month excursion to
the city of seclusion partaking his favorite off-season
activity, hunting.
Surrounded by his family including his mother (Grace Sheltra)
and father (Rick Sheltra) and fiancée Lauren Murrell,
the 23-year old Sheltra tackled the woods like a pro. Finding
his fair share of bucks – Sheltra also found the time
to bring in and entertain special guests, Racing Electronics
ARCA representative Corey LaCosta while in-between Christmas
and New Year’s, the Sheltra clan welcomed Florida
native Ray Sasser to their ranch. Both were winners of the
2009 edition of the Sheltra Motorsports Hunting Extravaganza.
Sasser along with LaCosta, who returned for a second trip,
enjoyed the true meaning of “hunting” while
experiencing the genuine southern hospitality from the Sheltra’s.
“I had a great time with the Sheltra’s,”
said Sasser. “They are truly incredible people and
to experience hunting from their angle is truly an adventure
I will never forget.”
Back to reality, Sheltra is setting his sights on another
form of “hunting” as he aims to collect his
first career restrictor plate victory in the upcoming ARCA
Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards season-opener
at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on Saturday February
6 for the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona.
“I always enjoy my time out in Texas but it is nice
to come back home,” said Sheltra, who scored his first
career ARCA victory at Salem (Ind.) Speedway last April.
“I’m looking forward to Daytona next month.
We had a real good test in December and that’s to
the credit of the guys in Kentucky. Hopefully we can go
back in a couple weeks and not miss a beat.”
When asked about the word “hunting” being used
in a racing sense – “Mr. Showtime” as
he’s referred to on the racetrack quickly realized
a similarity.
“We’ll be “hunting” for a win at
Daytona; that’s for sure,” added Sheltra, who
returns to the “World Center of Racing” following
a horrendous incident in last year’s ARCA season-opener.
We were “hunting” for the win last year and
I thought we put ourselves in a good position but it went
the other way in a blink of an eye. We’ll have a similar
game plan this year, hopefully a different and much more
positive outcome.”
He continued, “Daytona is the Super Bowl event for
the ARCA Series. It’s an event that helps put this
series on the map. Obviously, with the addition of Danica
Patrick entering the race it is already putting the series
in the limelight. Hopefully, it will also put other drivers
and teams like myself in that same picture.”
“To win at Daytona has been one of my biggest goals
since making the transition to asphalt racing a couple years
ago,” sounded Sheltra. “The race will be one
of the most torrid battles of the year but the race will
also require a lot of patience, guidance, speed and luck.
It sure would be nice though to start the season off with
a win at Daytona International Speedway!”
