| The YMCA of the Treasure Coast Indiantown Welcomes
Hometown Hero Patrick Sheltra
INDIANTOWN, Florida (February 22, 2010) - - It’s
not every day you get to meet a real hometown hero, but
that’s just what the Indiantown YMCA kids will do
this Wednesday (February 24) from 2:30pm - 4:00 pm.
Indiantown native and ARCA Racing Series and part-time
NASCAR Nationwide Series racecar driver Patrick Sheltra,
also known as “Mr. Showtime” will make an important
visit and graciously spend some time with the YMCA children.
The children in the “Y” after school program
and “YReads” program will be celebrating Patrick
Sheltra Day at the Indiantown YMCA. The purpose is for Y
children to be interested in racing, setting and reaching
goals, and listening to Sheltra’s hometown story.
Sheltra rebounded last year from an incredible incident
at Daytona (Fla.) International and now is one of the premiere
ARCA drivers. The children will also be taking part in a
coloring contest which celebrates Sheltra’s accomplishments
with the 23-year old racing protégé being
the judge.
This in an effort help promote the upcoming Indiantown
YMCA Children’s Art Auction on March 11th 6:00p.m.
– 8:00p.m., which Sheltra has participated in the
past. Many of the Indiantown Y children’s are scholarship
for much needed quality programs while the family works
and the Art Auction is the official kickoff of the Y campaign.
Following his visit at the YMCA this week, Sheltra will
compete in Saturday’s Tire Kingdom 150 presented by
ModSpace at Palm Beach (Fla.) International Raceway. Many
of the Indiantown “Y” Children are expected
to attend and support their local hero.
Setting goals is important to Sheltra, who has already
reached several milestones in his career. A veteran of many
race tracks, he is best known for his exciting races at
Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and Talladega (Ala.)
Superspeedway.
“It’s absolute honor to have Patrick visit
our “Y” children,” says Shawn Keil, Executive
Branch Director of the Indiantown YMCA Louis Dreyfus Citrus
Branch.
“Patrick is a true hometown hero and it’s great
to have an Indiantown native speak to the children about
setting goals and bouncing back from adversity. Many of
our children know nothing about competitive racing and the
teamwork that goes into it. I think “Mr. Showtime”
will spark their interest. Racing makes for a great family
sport as they cheer on Patrick in Saturday’s race
at Palm Beach International Raceway.”
“I am looking forward to Wednesday,” said Sheltra,
driver of the No. 60 PowerTrac Machinery / Sheltra &
Son Construction, Inc. Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. “I’ve
had the opportunity to spend some time with the kids in
the past and it really brings a smile to your face. I’m
excited to spend some time with them, sign some autographs
and let them ask questions. This is truly one of the best
parts of my job.”
