Federated Car Care,
Toledo (Oh.) Speedway, Toledo, Ohio
Race Information: Event: Menards 200 by
Federated Car Care, Sunday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. Local Time
Track: Toledo Speedway Qualifying: Saturday, May 22, at
3:30 p.m. Local Time; Track Length: .5-mile paved-oval.
Last Time Out; Talladega Superspeedway:
While Dakoda Armstrong was able to notch his first career
victory in the Talladega ARCA 250 on Friday, April 23 the
fans and the ARCA garage area were wailing about the performance
of Patrick Sheltra in the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings
Dodge Charger where he was able to overcome severe damage
from the “Big One” to find himself in contention
for his second career win. Sheltra in the final laps was
able to draft from 15th and push Armstrong to victory. Sheltra
had to settle for second, but it was his career best finish
at the 2.66-mile superspeedway in the ARCA Racing Series.
Sheltra also competed in the NASCAR Nationwide Series event
for RAB Racing. After leading three laps, Sheltra would
be tagged in the “Big One” on the last lap and
relegate the duo to an 18th place finish.
Returning To The Buckeye State: For the
seventh time in his ARCA Racing Series career, Patrick Sheltra
will take the green flag at Toledo Speedway Sunday afternoon.
In six prior efforts at the Northern Ohio short track, Sheltra
has maneuvered two top-five finishes including a runner-up
finish in May 2008. Additionally, Sheltra posted an eighth
place finish at Toledo Speedway in October 2007. Sheltra’s
average finishing position is 14th at ARCA’s home-town
facility.
From Isolation To Reality: After spending
last weekend celebrating his 24th birthday with his closest
family and friends, Sheltra boarded a plane and headed to
Dryden, Texas on Sunday morning to spend a few days with
his father and brother, Roc Sheltra at the family’s
hunting ranch in the city of 11. Sheltra and Co. performed
routine maintenance on the property gearing up for their
annual three-month return this fall. Sheltra returned to
reality on Wednesday afternoon where he flew to Detroit
to participate in pre-race activities for the 67th ARCA
race held at the Toledo Speedway.
Happy Birthday Sheltra Family: Last Friday,
May 14, veteran ARCA driver Patrick Sheltra celebrated his
24th birthday. Ironically, it is also the same birthday
as his father and co-car owner Richard (Rick) Sheltra. Rick
Sheltra along with his mother and car owner Grace Sheltra
surprised the youngest Sheltra with an unscheduled trip
to Mooresville, North Carolina to wish the ARCA pro a Happy
Birthday in person. The Sheltra Motorsports team took the
birthday bunch to lunch before the elder Sheltra’s
made the trip back to Indiantown, Florida Friday night.
Patrick Sheltra celebrated his birthday night with friends
and his Sheltra Motorsports team in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Testing, Testing, 123….: To prepare
the Sheltra Motorsports team for round six of the 2010 ARCA
Racing Series schedule, the fourth year ARCA team participated
in a private test session at The Motor Mile in Fairlawn,
Virginia last Thursday (May 13). The team led by crew chief
Jon Wolfe was extremely happy with the outcome of the test.
The team utilized a new Dodge chassis which will debut in
Sunday’s race.
Recognizing A Hero: Sheltra Motorsports
will pay tribute to Operations Specialist second class Jon
T. Worch who will be in attendance of the Menards 200 presented
by Federated Car Care at Toledo Speedway on Sunday. Worch,
a longtime fan of Sheltra is an active member in the United
States Navy. He recently returned to the United States from
a trip overseas. On leave, Worch will attend his first ARCA
race at Toledo before returning to duty on the United States
Navy Ship USS Cape St. George CG-71 in California.
Get To The Point; Cedar Point: Sheltra
along with three other full-time ARCA drivers participated
in a rare autograph session at Cedar Point in Sandusky,
Ohio Thursday afternoon promoting the Menards 200. Sheltra
along with girlfriend Lauren Murrell paired up with ARCA
driver Chad McCumbee and his wife Stephie for a VIP tour
and treatment taming some of the park’s most thrilling
rolling coasters including the highly famed Top Thrill Dragster.
Sheltra and Murrell will return to amusement park on Monday
with his Sheltra Motorsports team in a rare but highly anticipated
fun day off.
From Toledo To The Irish Hills: Following
Sunday’s race and an off-day Monday, the Sheltra Motorsports
team will return to work on Tuesday by participating in
the open test session at Michigan International Speedway
(MIS) in the No. 60 Toyota Camry in preparation for the
Racing for Wildlife 200 on Friday, June 11. The Indiantown,
Florida native will make his fifth start at the two-mile
oval while gunning for his first top-five and second top-10
finish at the ultra-fast Irish Hills, Michigan speed plant.
Nice Stats: By posting his third top-five
and fifth top-10 finish of the season at Talladega (Ala.)
Superspeedway, Sheltra became the only ARCA Racing Series
driver to finish inside the top-10 in all five races thus
far. Sheltra surpassed Steve Arpin who along with Sheltra
had top-10 finishes in the four events leading up to Talladega.
Sheltra kicked off his strongest start to an ARCA season
with a fifth place performance at Daytona, a 10th place
performance at Palm Beach, a fourth place run at Salem Speedway,
a seventh place outing at Texas Motor Speedway and his season-best
second at ‘Dega.
Point’s Check: Five races down,
15 to go, Sheltra with the guidance of crew chief Jon Wolfe
sits third in the ARCA Racing Series championship standings
just 30 markers behind current leader Justin Marks. Just
10 markers separate Sheltra from the runner-up spot held
by Steve Arpin. Mother and car owner Grace Sheltra locks
the third position in the ARS car owner standings, just
30 credits from the top-spot held by Kevin Cywinski (No.
32).
Autographs Anyone?: Fans will get a double-dose
to meet one of the hottest drivers on the ARCA tour this
weekend. On Friday evening (May 20), Sheltra will keep his
annual commitment to ARCA’s annual Fan Fest by participating
in an autograph session on the grounds of Toledo Speedway
from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. After his duties at the
track on Sunday morning, Sheltra will participate in pre-race
activities at the half-mile oval by participating in the
traditional on-track autograph signing from 12:00 p.m. to
1:15 p.m. local time.
Patrick Sheltra ARCA Career At-A-Glance: Entering
Toledo, Sheltra has 72 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX

Sheltra Motorsports, Toledo
Speedway Pre-Race Quotes: Patrick Sheltra, driver of the
No. 60 Recycling Services-Ferguson Pipe Dodge Charger.
On Talladega Superspeedway: “I still
don’t know how we pulled that off but we did. It was
a great recovery by the entire Sheltra Motorsports team.
We vowed never to give up and the hard work paid off. Hopefully
the finish proved to everyone in the garage that we really
are serious about trying to win the ARCA championship.”
On Toledo Speedway: “I have a good
feeling about Toledo this weekend. The last two races there
didn’t go as planned for the Sheltra Motorsports team
but that’s in the rear-view mirror and the team is
focused on a strong run on Sunday afternoon. I like Toledo.
It’s a great short track that always provides a lot
of action. The fans will be in for a real treat.”
On Motor Mile Speedway Test: “I
never had been to the Motor Mile before last Thursday but
I enjoyed the track immensely. The test was a real success
and I think with what we learned there will help us tremendously
this weekend at Toledo. We’re real excited about this
new car and it could steer us to our first victory of the
season on Sunday.”
On Cedar Point: “Thursday offered
a great chance to talk with some fans, explore the park
and enjoy some thrilling rides. I had a blast and am very
appreciative and thankful for Cedar Point and their staff
for accommodating us. If all goes to plan, we’ll be
back there on Monday with the team and really have some
fun!”
On Points: “We made up some much
needed ground at Talladega to Justin (Marks) and Steve (Arpin).
The finishes like we have been having all year need to continue
in order for us to stay in the hunt. We’re just going
to keep giving everything we have every weekend and hope
that the racing gods will continue to be on our side.”
Sheltra Motorsports, Toledo
Speedway Pre-Race Quotes: Grace Sheltra, owner of the No.
60 Recycling Services-Ferguson Pipe Dodge Charger.
On Talladega Superspeedway: “I can
tell you in person, we were going to be happy for a top-15
finish after everything we suffered through early in the
race. How Patrick was able to maneuver the wounded No. 60
Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge Charger to a second place
finish really shows how talented of a driver he really is.”
On Toledo Speedway: “Toledo has
been one of those race tracks that if we stayed out of trouble
or trouble didn’t find us we were in contention for
the win. We’ve been on a hot streak this season and
the guys expect it to continue this weekend. I’m really
proud of their efforts and hope we can accelerate to our
first win of the year on Sunday!”
On Celebrating Patrick’s 24th Birthday In
North Carolina: “It was a nice surprise.
I bought Rick a plane ticket to see Patrick for his birthday
present and Patrick had no idea that we were coming. It
was nice to see him enjoy his birthday in the surroundings
of his family and friends. We’re hoping that he receives
his biggest birthday present of the year by winning the
race on Sunday.”
