| Patrick Sheltra Cruises To Victory At Union
County Speedway
LIBERTY, Indiana (August 31, 2008) - - The stands were
full and the action was heavy but dirt track ace Patrick
Sheltra proved why he was the man to beat at Union County
Speedway Saturday night as the Indiantown, Florida native
cruised to a huge UMP late model win in the Big Wieck Memorial
at the Liberty, Indiana dirt track.
Sheltra who finished second the night before in Ohio was
looking for revenge after dominating the event before falling
victim to tire decay.
Saturday was another night and another challenge but nothing
stood in the 22 year old driver’s way as Sheltra in
his No. 23 FloraGanics-Brady Ranch-All About Flowers Chevrolet
was dominate, leading 100 percent of the laps and capturing
his second dirt victory of the season at Union County Speedway.
“I’m feeling pretty great,” said Sheltra,
who now heads to DuQuoin, Illinois for ARCA’s running
of the dirt in Monday’s Southern Illinois 100. “We
had one get away from us Friday night but we weren’t
going to let it happen on Saturday night. The car was great
and the boys worked hard. This one is for them and all of
the people who support this team. It feels good to be in
victory lane.”
Sheltra added, “I needed this. We’ve run strong
all year on the dirt and it’s been a while since we’ve
been in victory lane. I’m ready to go to DuQuoin now
and put our asphalt car in victory circle Monday afternoon.”
Speaking of DuQuoin, Sheltra is one of the favorites heading
into the 16th event of the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series season.
Last year, Sheltra finished sixth after starting 12th. Two
weeks ago, Sheltra grasped his first stock car dirt event
of the season at Springfield, Illinois at the Illinois State
Fairgrounds.
After starting 11th, Sheltra roared his No. 60 Dodge Charger
to the front before experiencing a flat tire in the late
stages of the event. With his never-give-up attitude, Sheltra
bounced back in spectacular finish coming from 18th to 12th
in the final five laps of the event to record his third
straight top-12 finish.
The record books have shown when Sheltra wins on the dirt,
his asphalt program is equally in the hunt for the win.
In May, Sheltra won at Union County on Friday night and
backed it up with an impressive second-place and career
best asphalt performance at Toledo Speedway two days later.
“We can win on Monday. That’s the bottom line,”
added Sheltra.
The Southern Illinois (100 miles/100 laps) is the 16th
of 21 events on the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The
26th ARCA event held at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds is
a one-day show. Practice begins Monday, September 1 with
a one hour practice session planned from 9:00 a.m.- 10:00
a.m. ARCA SIM Factory pole qualifying is slated to begin
at 11:00 a.m. The field will take the green flag Monday
afternoon shortly after 1:00 p.m. The event will be tape-delayed
