ARCA Racing Series Race No. 18, Kentuckiana Ford Dealers
ARCA Fall Classic, Salem (Ind.) Speedway, Salem, Indiana
Race Information: Event: Kentuckiana Ford
Dealers ARCA Fall Classic, Saturday, September 18 at 7:15
p.m. Local Time Track: Salem Speedway Qualifying: Saturday,
September 18 at 4:00 p.m. Local Time; Track Length: .5-mile
paved-oval.
Last Time Out; Toledo Speedway: After
finishing fourth earlier in the week at the DuQuoin (Ill.)
State Fairgrounds, Patrick Sheltra and his Sheltra Motorsports
team returned to Toledo Speedway looking to keep their strong
stretch of momentum alive. The momentum included two wins
in the last three races. Looking to improve on their eighth
place Spring Toledo finish, the team brought their former
Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet now turned Dodge hoping
to aid them in their third victory of the season. Rain plagued
activity on Saturday shortening the practice session and
eventually putting the No. 60 on pole by having the highest
average position compared to Tom Hessert whom Sheltra was
tied with entering the Northwest Ohio Ford Dealers 200.
Sheltra led the first three laps of the event before slipping
back in the field. Adjustments made during the race allowed
Sheltra to climb back through the field and finish third,
notching his 10th top-five and 14th top-10 overall this
season. Sheltra also left the half-mile short track in sole
possession of the championship standings just five points
ahead of Craig Goess Jr.
Back To A Favorite: Sheltra will return
to Salem (Ind.) Speedway this weekend looking for ARCA Racing
Series victory number four in his eighth race at the historic
Southern Indiana short track. In his previous seven starts,
Sheltra has accumulated one win, two top-fives and six top-15
finishes and seven top-20 runs. Sheltra notched his first
career ARCA victory in the 2009 Kentuckiana Ford Dealers
200 after starting fourth. It was an emotional win not only
for Sheltra but for the ARCA garage as the Indiantown, Florida
native was injured just six weeks earlier in the season-opener
at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.
He’s A Teacher Too!: On Tuesday
(September 14), Sheltra and Brandon Hinson, Sheltra Motorsports
Marketing Director visited Lake Norman High School where
they spoke with students including crew chief Jon Wolfe’s
daughter Sydney Wolfe in “Introduction to Marketing.”
The duo talked about marketing in Motorsports and also answered
questions from students about marketing and even about Sheltra’s
blossoming career in racing.
Watcha Haulin?: Crew chief Jon Wolfe has
elected to bring Sheltra Motorsports Chassis No. 5 to Salem
Speedway this weekend. The former Joe Gibbs Racing piece
is the same automobile that Sheltra won with in April 2009.
It is also the same car responsible for the team’s
fourth place outing earlier this year at Salem (Ind.) Speedway.
Autographs Anyone?: Race fans will receive
an opportunity to meet one of the hottest drivers on the
ARCA tour this weekend. After his duties at the track on
Saturday, Sheltra will participate in pre-race activities
at the half-mile oval by participating in the traditional
on-track autograph signing from 4:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. local
time.

New Record Set; But Thirsty For More: While
eclipsing his 10th top-five finish of the year at Toledo
(Oh.) Speedway, Patrick Sheltra continues to rewrite his
own personal record books for the number of finishes inside
the top-five and top-10 for a full-season. In his previous
three full-time seasons, Sheltra had posted a season high
of four top-five finishes in 2009. Sheltra’s personal
best overall season of nine top-10 finishes in 2008 was
overtaken again by his performance in the Southern Illinois
100. Thus far in 2010, Sheltra has mastered two wins, 10
top-fives and 14 top-10 finishes in 17 races. Sheltra is
hoping to expand his new personal record with three races
remaining this year.
Point’s Check: 17 races down, three
to go, Sheltra with the guidance of crew chief Jon Wolfe
sits first in the ARCA Racing Series championship standings
accumulating 4090 points. The driver nicknamed “Mr.
Showtime” remained in the top-spot following his stout
run last weekend at Toledo Speedway. Sheltra was able to
un-attach himself from Tom Hessert III, who was tied with
Sheltra from the top-spot entering the 17th race of the
season. The 24-year old Sheltra also controls the first
position in the ARS car owner standings. The top-seven ARCA
Racing Series drivers are separated by just 225 points to
the leader for control of the top spot in the championship
chase. Earlier this year, Sheltra held the top-spot for
three consecutive races (Toledo, Michigan and Pocono) in
a row, and shared the top-spot with Tom Hessert for one
race (DuQuoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds). In 2009, he also
shared the top-spot with Parker Kligerman for one race (Rockingham
(N.C.) Speedway).
Sheltra’s Covered In Special Point Standings
Too: While the Sheltra Motorsports team is searching
for their first championship, the team is still after a
host of other awards too. Patrick Sheltra and mother Grace
Sheltra leads the ARCA “special points” Superspeedway
Challenge sector. Car owner Grace Sheltra leads Kevin Cywinski
(No. 32) by a 90-point gap entering the final speedway race
of the season at Kansas Speedway on September 30. Currently,
Patrick Sheltra is first in the CGS Imaging Hard Charger,
first in the Racing Electronics Lighting Challenge and first
in the Fast Track High Performance Driving School award.
Nice Statistic; Solid Stats: By posting
his 14th top-10 finish of the season at Toledo (Oh.) Speedway
on September 12, Sheltra is the only driver in the ARCA
Racing Series to finish inside the top-10 in 14 of the 17
races completed thus far in 2010. Sheltra kicked off his
strongest start to an ARCA season with a fifth place performance
at Daytona, a 10th place performance at Palm Beach, a fourth
place run at Salem Speedway, a seventh place outing at Texas
Motor Speedway, his season-best second at ‘Dega, an
eighth at Toledo Speedway, a fourth place run at Pocono
(Pa.) Raceway, a third place outing in the Racing for Wildlife
200 at Michigan International Speedway, a sixth place at
Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, a second-place outing in the Berlin
ARCA 200 at Berlin (Mich.) Raceway, a 13th place outing
at New Jersey Motorsports Park and most recently, a win
on the dirt at the Illinois State Fairgrounds and another
win at Chicagoland Speedway, a fourth place result at the
Du Quoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds and most recently a third
place in round number 17 at Toledo (Oh.) Speedway.
Patrick Sheltra ARCA Career At-A-Glance:
Entering Salem, Sheltra has 83 ARCA Racing Series presented
by RE/MAX and Menards starts to his credit with three career
victories at Salem (Ind.) Speedway (April 2009), the Illinois
State Fairgrounds (August 2010) and Chicagoland Speedway
(August 2010). During his ARCA tenure, Sheltra has accumulated
20 top-fives and posted 36 top-10 finishes. A second place
qualifying effort at Chicagoland Speedway (August 2010)
is Sheltra’s best time trials effort to date. He has
controlled the ARCA field 10 times for 276 laps.

Sheltra Motorsports, Salem
(Ind.) Speedway Pre-Race Quotes: Patrick Sheltra, driver
/ owner of the No. 60 PatrickSheltra.com / Ferguson Pipe
Enterprises Dodge Charger
On Toledo Speedway: “It was a solid
effort by the Sheltra Motorsports team. We brought a pretty
much brand new piece to the race track. We didn’t
have a whole lot of practice time, so we had to use the
race to get the car better. We were able to do that and
leave there with a third place finish and the point’s
lead. I’m not going to complain.”
On Salem Speedway: “Salem Speedway
is a very special place to me. For a while, I was beginning
to wonder if the track liked me. It’s such a fun place
to race and you have to get super tight to the wall in turns
three and four otherwise you aren’t doing your job
as a driver there. We had a good car in the Spring and I’m
looking forward to heading back to victory lane there Saturday
night!”
On Talking At Lake Norman High School: “It
was a lot of fun. I want to thank Lake Norman High School
and Mr. Carroll and Sydney (Wolfe) for asking me to come
and talk. Brandon (Hinson) and I were honored to talk to
the leaders of the future. They were great listeners and
it’s something I hope I can do more of in the future.”
On The Goal For Saturday Night “Finish
the race. We have to. We’ve been strong at Salem every
time we’ve gone there, even if our finishes haven’t
shown for it. Our team is the master of consistency right
now, so we just need to keep it up and leave Salem with
a strong run!”
On Points: “We’re point’s
racing. We’ll do everything we can to get some bonus
points on Saturday night but looking at the bigger picture,
we need to keep the fenders on the car and our eyes opened
so we can leave Salem with the lead still intact. I have
a great team behind me and Timmy (McKichan) does a superb
job as a spotter, so I’m looking forward to Saturday
night.”
